Lanna Thai Cuisine
Lanna Thai Cuisine is located just across from Markham VIP Cineplex, behind Ruth’s Chris. Once you step in, take a second to take in the tasteful and elegant decor littered with elements of Thai culture. The tall roof as well as the extravagant crystal lighting foreshadow a time to be remembered.
The tables are set in a style suitable for a fine gourmet, with each piece of cutlery and plates exuding graceful Thai flair. If you really want to impress someone, this is definitely the place. For appetizer one absolutely must try the curry baked oysters. While these are $8 a piece they are absolutely massive compared to the rocks you’re used to having. The shell is almost as large as a conch and the oyster meat is almost as big as a clenched fist. Size wasn’t the only thing that mattered; the oyster is seasoned to perfection, with fine notes of coconut and garlic among the curry affair. Do beware of the chili pepper though, as it packs a punch of heat. One of the more coveted main courses is the Coconut Lamb Shoulder Stew, a dish that needed to be preordered at least one day ahead of arriving. This dish has an arduous preparation time and is served in a whole pumpkin! The fragrance of coconut and pumpkin strikes a perfect balance on lamb, which is perfectly tender and juicy. The pumpkin can be carved into pieces and eaten, as it has been baked through along with the stew. To go all out on the main course would be to order the Deluxe Seafood Stew, for a truly spectacular seafood fiesta. The first thing that catches the eye in this dish is the whole lobster sitting on top, then comes the numerous scallops littered aside. There are about eight different kinds of seafood in this dish, and every one of them has been thoroughly infused with the fragrant curry and coconut flavour of the broth. The broth is a creamy but light broth, not heavily seasoned as the chef wanted to preserve the taste of the ingredients. The broccoli not only adds to visual appeal, but perfectly complements all the seafood being enjoyed. For desert you can enjoy one of the classic Thai desserts to end your meal with, or a classic Crème Brûlée if you are inclined. The Crème Brûlée is meticulously decorated with fresh fruit that adds a sour tang which complements the custard’s sweetness to perfection. If you wanted a refined Thai dining experience, you have to visit Lanna Thai Cuisine. This restaurant fully justifies its prices by its excellent dining experience, and it is definitely the place to go on a special occasion.
